Council Elections 2026 – Academic Staff

Report of the Returning Officer

Following a call for nominations to elect two members of the academic staff of the University to the ƵCouncil, a total of four nominations were received for the two positions.  This election has two categories:

  • One member must have duties with a predominant research focus (‘the Academic staff (Institute) member”)
  • One member must have duties involving both teaching and research (“the Academic staff (Faculties) member”).

One nomination was received for the Academic staff (Institute) member.  Therefore, as Returning Officer, I declare that Professor Sasha (Alexander) Mikheyev has been elected unopposed.

Three nominations were received for the Academic staff (Faculties) member. Following the close of voting at 5pm on Friday 4 September, the electronic count was conducted by the Returning Officer and University Governance Office via Teams at 9:30am Monday 7 September 2026, with two nominated scrutineers and an observer from the University Legal Office in attendance.

Following the count, I declare that Dr Jessie Moritz is elected to Council.
