Elections to Academic Board 2026

STATUS OF ELECTIONS AT CLOSE OF NOMINATIONS

On 11 March 2026, nominations were invited from eligible candidates for election to the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµAcademic Board for the following categories:

  • 4 members of the College Executive Committees, who are not College  Deans, elected by the members of the College Executive Committees;.
  • 3 members of the academic staff of each ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµCollege elected by the members of the academic staff of that College; and
  • 2 members of the professional staff elected by the members of the  professional staff.

For the purpose of this election, eligible members of staff are people who, on 26 February 2026, were paid a salary by the University and satisfy the definitions for these different election categories specified under s16-18 of the  and s11-13 of  the .

Nominations closed at 5pm on Friday 27 March.  Please find the status of each election listed below:

Voting Process - commencing Tuesday 7 April

Nominations exceeded positions to be filled in the following categories and a voting process will be necessary:

2 members of Professional Staff
3 members of the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµCollege of Business and Economics
3 members of the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµCollege of Law, Governance and Policy

Eligible voters will receive voting links on Tuesday 7 April and information will be made available via the separate webpages linked above for each election, including candidate information.

Voting Process - commencing Friday 10 April - CSS

In relation to the election of three academic staff from the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµCollege of Systems and Society, at the close of nominations on 27 March, two nominations were received in total from Professor Penny Kyburz and Professor Uri Onn.  As the nominations did not exceed the number of positions to be filled, under the Academic Board Election Protocol, the Returning Officer declared Professor Kyburz and Professor Onn to be elected.  

To fill the remaining one position, nominations were reopened for a further period ending Wednesday 8 April at 5pm.  At the close of the second round of nominations, two valid nominations were received.  As nominations exceeded the remaining one position to be filled, a voting process will be necessary.

Eligible voters will receive voting links on Friday 10 April and information will be made available via the following webpage link, including candidate information.

1 member of academic staff of the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµCollege of Systems and Society

Election of 4 members of the College Executive Committees

One nomination was received in total from Dr Dana Hanna.  As the nomination did not exceed the number of positions to be filled, under the Academic Board Election Protocol, the Returning Officer declared Dr Hanna to be elected.  As the remaining positions had not been filled, the Returning Officer re-opened nominations for a further period until Wednesday 8 April at 5pm.  At the close of the second round of nominations, no further nominations were received.  Under the , the Returning Officer therefore declares three casual vacancies in the category of members of College Executive Committees.  These casual vacancies will now be filled in accordance with s21 and s22 of the .

Election of 3 members of the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµCollege of Arts and Social Sciences

Three nominations were received in total from Associate Professor Jill Sheppard, Professor Samantha Bennett and Dr Constanza Sanhueza Petrarca.  As the nominations match the number of positions to be filled, under the Academic Board Election Protocol, the Returning Officer declared these nominees to be elected and the election process complete.

Election of 3 members of the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµCollege of Asia and the Pacific

Four nominations were received at the close of nominations, with one candidate withdrawing their nomination subsequently.  The remaining three nominations were from Associate Professor Larissa Schneider, Associate Professor Meera Ashar and Professor Toni Erskine.  As the nominations match the number of positions to be filled, under the Academic Board Election Protocol, the Returning Officer declared these nominees to be elected and the election process complete.

Election of 3 members of the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµCollege of Science and Medicine

Two nominations were received in total from Associate Professor Nathan Emmerich and Dr AJ Mitchell at the close of nominations on 27 March.  As the nominations did not exceed the number of positions to be filled, under the Academic Board Election Protocol, the Returning Officer declared Associate Professor Emmerich and Dr Mitchell to be elected.  To fill the remaining 1 position, nominations were reopened for a further period ending Wednesday 8 April at 5pm. At the close of the second round of nominations, one valid nomination from Associate Professor Tamas Fischer was received for the remaining one position.  The Returning Officer therefore declares Associate Professor Fischer elected and the election process complete.
