The Hon Wayne Martin AC KC
Mr Martin is a long-serving former Chief Justice of Western Australia and current Chief Justice of the Courts of the Dubai International Financial Centre. Mr Martin graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1973, with a Bachelor of Laws and First Class Honours. He was made a KC (formally QC) in 1993.
Currently, Mr Martin takes appointments as mediator and arbitrator within Australia and elsewhere. He has chambers in Perth (Francis Burt Chambers), and in London, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur (39 Essex Chambers).
In addition to his work as a barrister, Mr Martin is the former Lieutenant Governor of Western Australia, former Chairman of the Western Australian Law Reform Commission, and the former President of the Administrative Review Council and Western Australia Bar Association. He has served on numerous boards throughout his career.
Mr Martin is known for his campaigns to modernise the courts in Western Australia, enhance access to justice for marginalised communities, and improve the efficiency of the legal system.
In 2012, Mr Martin was appointed a Companion in the General Division of the Order of Australia, for eminent service to the judiciary and to the law, particularly as Chief Justice of Western Australia, to legal reform and education, and to the community. In 2007 he was awarded the Western Australia Citizen of the Year for the Professions.
