The Indigenous Strategy Special Committee (ISSC) has met every three weeks since its inception in February 2026, focused on advancing key strategic priorities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and students at ������Ƶ (ANU) and strengthening the governance and institutional settings supporting this work. The ������ƵFirst Nations Portfolio (FNP) provides secretarial support for ISSC.

The membership of ISSC is:

• Co-Chair, Professor Steven Roberts, Dean, ������ƵCollege of Business and Economics
• Professor Aunty Anne Martin, Director, Tjabal Indigenous Higher Education Centre
• Professor Ruth Wallace, DVC First Nations Leadership, Charles Darwin University 
• Matt Talbot, General Manager, College of Arts and Social Sciences
• Professor Asmi Wood
• Jess Bulger, Senior Fellow in the Practice of Management, College of Business and Economics.

ISSC engaged closely with the development of the ������Ƶby 2030 Strategy, including direct consultation on Indigenous matters included within the Strategy. 

ISSC also considered the status of the University’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which expired in January 2026, and recommended that the new Strategy and its commitment to Indigenous matters at ������Ƶact in place of a renewed RAP. ISSC also made recommendations on terminology relating to Indigenous peoples across ������Ƶstrategy and communications. “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander” was suggested as the clearest and most inclusive term. 

ISSC is now focused on working to translate the ������ƵStrategy into action by engaging with the creation of the Implementation Plan.

Throughout 2026, ISSC has continued to consider broader strategic matters affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at ANU, including Indigenous research, employment, and institutional governance. 

ISSC has sought to ensure these matters are considered at the appropriate level of University governance and are supported by clear accountability and resourcing.
